What are the different types of bank cards?

There are four main categories of bank cards:

• Credit cards (accepted):
  • These are deferred debit cards or cards backed by a revolving credit. In both cases, the transactions made are debited from the cardholder's account at a later date, with or without interest;

• Debit cards (declined):
  • These are cards with immediate debit or systematic authorization for which the transactions carried out are immediately debited (within 48 hours maximum) from the cardholder's account;
• Commercial cards (refused):
  • Leur utilisation est limitée aux frais professionnels. Les opérations sont débitées directement sur le compte de l’entreprise (ou de l’organisme public ou de la personne physique exerçant une activité indépendante) ;
• Prepaid cards ("gift cards", "reloadable cards") (refused):
  • With a maximum amount of 10,000 euros, they can be reloaded (in cash or in electronic money) up to a limit of 1,000 euros per month. Cash withdrawals and refunds are also limited to 1,000 euros per month.
